Point Reyes August 7-20, 2008

Twelve days at Juniper House, Bolinas, and hiking along the Bolinas Ridge, Point Reyes National Seashore, Mt. Tamalpais State Park, and biking along Highway 1 and in Point Reyes National Seashore. Temperatures in August were mostly in the 60s, trails in thick canopies of redwoods were decadently cool, sometimes misty, always a treat. Marin County has over 350 miles of hiking trails, a remarkable number of organic farmers, an extraordinary commitment to the preservation of the land. And less than one hour from the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco metropolis. Once you "land" in Point Reyes, you've arrived on a different planet.

  • This painted expression has nothing to do with the southern California/Mexican border and everything to do with keeping Bolinas a "hidden" community, and the community has a reputation for discouraging visitors. The state stopped erecting directional signs to Bolinas because locals kept tearing them down.
